Egypt to mirror Saudi robot Sophia soon

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt is looking to create an Egyptian version of Sophia, the robot that was granted Saudi citizenship last October.

The North African nation will create an unnamed copycat to answer questions about the civil service law, Almal News reported, citing head of the Central Agency for Organization Administration Saleh El-Sheikh.

El-Sheikh did not reveal any details on projected costs or the reasons why the government needs such an artificial intelligence platform to answer questions about the law, the newspaper added.

It was noted, however, that almost three companies were being considered to develop the Egyptian Sophia.

In October, Saudi Arabia became the world’s first country to grant citizenship to a robot after granting Sophia, the social humanoid robot developed by Hong Kong-based company Hanson Robotics, Saudi citizenship. The move came as part of the world's top oil exporter’s plan to set up a $500 billion futuristic city named NEOM.
