Egypt to invest over EGP 70bn in energy projects – Minister

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian government is planning to enhance the efficiency of its electricity grids including high-voltage converter plants and control centres, with total investments of $4 billion (EGP 71.72 billion).

The plan includes the improving electrical-grid capacity to receive power from renewable energy plants and support grids with neighbouring countries, electricity minister Mohammed Shaker said.

Egypt’s integrated and sustainable energy strategy includes the increase of renewable energy contribution to the country’s energy mix to 46% by 2035, the minister added.

Shaker noted that around 7,650 square kilometres have been allocated for renewable energy projects with expected capacities of 35 Gigawatts from wind energy plants and 55 Gigawatts from solar plants.
