Cairo - Mubasher: The number of e-wallets of Egypt's telecom operators rose by 16% to 16.3 million during the first half (H1) of 2021, compared to 14.1 million in H1-20.
According to a report by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), the e-wallets of mobile phones are distributed as follows: Vodafone 65%, Orange 20%, Etisalat 11%, and WE 4%.
The number of e-transactions carried out using e-wallets hiked by 175% to 81 million in the January-June period, compared to 29.5 million in the year-ago period.
Meanwhile, the number of transfers from one e-wallet to another surged by 300% to 35.2 million in H1-21 from 8.8 million in H1-20 with the average transaction value amounting to EGP 1,203.
Moreover, the number of deposits soared by 109% to 13.8 million from 6.6 million, while the number of withdrawals rose by 132% to 10.2 million from 4.4 million.
The number of credit recharge transactions using e-wallets increased by 93% to 16.4 million in H1-21 from 8.5 million in H1-20.
