Egypt’s birth rate fall 1.6% in 2017 - CAPMAS

Cairo – Mubasher: Birth rate in Egypt declined by 1.6% in 2017 to reach 2.557 million infants, compared to 2.60 million in 2016.

Cairo topped the Egyptian governorates in terms of births number with 2.931 million last year, versus 2.412 million a year earlier, according to data by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics' (CAPMAS).

Meanwhile, South Sinai Governorate came in the last spot with 3,140 births in 2017, 6.9% down from 3,372 infants in 2016.

Mortality rate dropped by 1.6% to 542.14 deaths last year, versus 556.14 in 2016, the CAPMAS highlighted.
