Egypt's NTRA inks $1.17bn mobile spectrum agreements

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, witnessed the signing of new mobile frequencies agreements, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported on Wednesday.

The agreements were signed by the CEO of Telecom Egypt, Adel Hamed; the CEO of Vodafone Egypt, Mohamed Abdullah; the CEO of Etisalat Misr, Hazem Metwally; and the Executive President of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA); Hussam El-Gamal.

Vodafone Egypt acquired two 20-megahertz (MHz) bands for $540 million, while Telecom Egypt (WE) purchased two 10-MHz bands for $USD 305 million in October in an auction launched by the NTRA.

In addition, Etisalat Misr bought 2x10 MHz bands for $325 million.

In 2019, the information and technology communications investments reached EGP 30 billion in 2019 which enabled the sector withstand the coronavirus crisis, Talaat said.
