Egypt Today: Egyptian company Kemet has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China’s TBEA to cooperate in the renewable energy sector and localize the manufacturing of power grid connection systems for Egypt’s national electricity network.
The agreement also includes plans to establish Egypt’s first factory dedicated to the production of solar power inverters, marking a significant step toward strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities in clean energy technologies.
Solar inverters are a key component of renewable energy systems, converting direct current (DC) generated by solar panels or batteries into alternating current (AC) used by most household and industrial appliances. They play a vital role in ensuring power stability and efficient energy conversion, particularly for equipment that operates at variable speeds, such as air-conditioning systems, as well as in backup power solutions.
The MoU aligns with Egypt’s broader strategy to expand the share of clean and renewable energy in the national energy mix, alongside deepening cooperation with China to localize the production of electrical equipment and energy storage solutions, including batteries.
Separately, Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, held talks with Huang Hanjie, Chairman of TBEA, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and partnership.
The discussions focused on accelerating the establishment of manufacturing facilities, transferring advanced technologies, and launching training and capacity-building programs to support workforce development.
Minister Esmat emphasized that Egypt’s electricity and renewable energy sector continues to operate under an integrated strategy for technology transfer and industrial localization, implemented in close partnership with the private sector.
He also stressed that the Egyptian state provides full support and incentives to encourage greater private-sector participation through successful industrial partnerships, maximizing value-added from raw materials via manufacturing industries, and advancing the implementation of low-carbon renewable energy projects.
