Egypt mulls exporting electricity to Syria

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt is mulling over exporting electricity to Syria in the coming period, sources at the Egyptian electricity minister said.

The ministry is currently conducting a raft of studies regarding this matter, especially after generating a large surplus of electricity, local newspaper Al-Mal reported, citing the sources.

Electricity could be exported to Syria from Cairo through the cross-border electrical interconnection line extended with Jordan by setting up a line that connects Oman with Damascus, sources highlighted.

In December 2017, Egyptian electricity minister Mohamed Shaker stated that Egypt was planning to export its electricity surplus in 2018 to a number of the African and Arab states, particularly Jordan, Libya, and Saudi Arabia.
