Egypt manufacturing index rises 15% in March – CAPMAS

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s index of manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, grew by 15.1% month-on-month to 142.80 points in March from 124.10 points, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The food industries index registered 108.72 points, rising by 16.6% month-on-month from 93.22 points in February on the back of higher contracts and supplies, the CAPMAS said on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the index of ready-made clothing hiked by 59.3% to 457.91 points in March from 287.43 points a month earlier, driven by the increase in export contracts.

On the other hand, the mining index fell by 26.7% month-on-month to 125.35 points, compared to 170.95 points in February.

Furthermore, the index of furniture industry declined by 14.8% to 67.23 points in March from 78.92 points in February, pressured by lower demand.
