Egypt launches $100m remote sensing satellite from Kazakhstan

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s $100 million (EGP 1.75 billion) third Earth observation satellite, EgyptSat-A, was launched successfully from Kazakhstan's Baikonur Cosmodrome spaceport on Thursday at 6:45 pm, Cairo time.

The launch of the rocket containing EgyptSat-A was witnessed by a high-level Egyptian delegation include top officials and scientists, the minister of higher education and scientific research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said in a statement.

The new mission will take 11 years and will benefit Egypt’s environmental and agricultural sectors.

EgyptSat-A will replace EgyptSat 2 satellite, which went out of control in 2015.
