Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt has signed an agreement with one of the major vaccine manufacturers in Europe to locally produce a COVID-19 vaccine, approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and accepted by European countries, the Minister of Health and Population, Hala Zayed, said.
The country plans to export its locally-produced vaccine, manufactured by the Egyptian Holding Company for Biopharmaceuticals and Vaccines (Vacsera), to new markets in Africa as requested by the African Union, Zayed added in a press conference on Monday.
The current output capacity of Vacsera amounts to 1 billion doses per year, the minister noted.
So far, Vacsera has produced 15 million doses of Sinovac vaccine, of which 1 million doses will be supplied to medical centres on Tuesday, 24 August, she added.
The minister added that the country is expected to receive 5.2 million doses of Moderna and Pfizer vaccines in September.
A total of 10 million Egyptians have registered to receive the vaccine, including 7.5 million people who have been vaccinated so far.
