Egypt hikes prices of 30 medicines by 10-50%

Cairo – Mubasher: The Ministry of Health decided to raise the prices of a limited number of medicines and medical cosmetics in the market, chairperson of the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Affairs Rasha Zeyada told Al Watan News.

This came after the medicine producers have submitted plethora of requests to raise the prices, Zeyada added.

The health ministry's pricing committee has decided to raise the prices of 30 medicines by 10% to 50%, she highlighted.

The increase will be in the prices of diabetes, blood pressure, cardiovascular, brain, neuroscience medicines, and other drugs, the top official indicated.

Egyptian pharmaceutical firms are seeking to raise their product prices, claiming that they suffered losses due to the economic decisions taken by the government over the past period, including raising fuel prices last June.
