Egypt finalizes $130M export contracts in trade show in Germany

Some 102 Egyptian companies participated in the “Fruit Logistica" fresh produce trade show held in Berlin in February, where the commercial office in Berlin helped in concluding export contracts for Egyptian companies worth $130 million, Trade Minister Tarek Kabil said Wednesday.

Kabil said that the ministry is keen to support Egyptian companies participating in international fairs abroad, the matter that will help in opening new markets and customers for Egyptian exports.

Kabil said that the Egyptian presence in the exhibition reflects the Egyptian business community’s keenness to enhance Egyptian-German trade and economic relations.

Head of the Egyptian Commercial Service Ahmed Antar said that the commercial office in Berlin has put a plan to promote Egyptian companies participating in the show and provided them with the needed information on the German market as well as marketing studies on the fruit and vegetable market in Germany.

Antar added that the office has coordinated with Misr Bank-Europe to provide financing to Egyptian companies that participated in the exhibition.

Fruit Logistica exhibition is considered to be the world's largest for exporters and importers of agricultural products.

Egypt's Ambassador to Germany Badr Abdel Ati said in February that vegetable products constitute 23 percent of Egypt's overall exports to Germany, which reflects the importance of the agricultural sector for boosting Egypt's international trade.

He said that the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Germany reached €5.5 billion in 2017, an increase of 26 percent compared to 2016.
