Egypt OKs EUR 205m loan for Cairo Metro development

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Cabinet has approved a presidential decree to upgrade Cairo Metro’s Line 1 with an EUR 205 million financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The loan aims to re-establish the infrastructure of the first line stops’ railway system, according to a statement on Wednesday.

Transport minister Hisham Arafat stressed that these developments will serve approximately 1.8 million citizens per day.

He noted that the ministry is currently working on enhancing Line 1’s services through linking El Marg and New Marg stops, which is set for completion next January.
