Cairo – Mubasher: Trade exchange between Egypt and the members of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) soared by 41% year-on-year in 2018, head of Egyptian Commercial Representative Office in Lusaka, Ahmed El-Dib, said.
Bilateral trade between Egypt and COMESA members amounted to $2.31 billion last year, compared to $1.64 billion in 2017, El-Dib added in a recent report.
Egypt achieved a surplus in its trade balance with COMESA members of $730 million in 2018, rising by $98.8 million, or 15.6%, from $631 million a year earlier.
The North African nation’s exports to COMESA members grew by $386 million, or 34%, year-on-year to $1.52 billion last year.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s imports from COMESA members increased by $287 million to $792 million in 2018 from $505 million in the prior year.
