Egypt, Japan mull $150m financing programme for MSMEDA

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) are currently mulling a $150 million financing programme in favour of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA).

An amount of $100 million will be allocated to industrial and digital transformation projects, while $50 million will be directed to agricultural and high credit risk projects, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Nevine Gamea, said in a statement on Wednesday.

This came during the minister’s meeting with the Japanese Ambassador to Egypt, Masaki Noke, to explore the possible means for developing economic ties between the two countries.

Gamea noted that Egypt is looking to benefit from the Japanese experience in manufacturing some of the Japanese cars in Egypt.

The minister also called on the Asian country to lift its ban on Egyptian citrus exports.
