Egypt, EU to ink oil, gas deal next week

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt will sign an agreement in the fields of gas, oil, and electricity with the European Union (EU) next week during the EU commissioner for energy affairs' visit to the North African nation.

This comes in light of Egypt’s attempts to become a major energy hub in the region, Egyptian minister Tarek El-Molla said in a press conference.

Turning Egypt into a regional hub for gas and oil is an integrated part of developing the Arab country’s oil sector, which aims at finding out all capabilities of the sector by 2021 as a key driver to achieve sustainable development, the minister remarked.

In December 2017, El-Molla announced the beginning of pumping natural gas output of supergiant Zohr field, located in the Mediterranean Sea, into Port Said treatment plant with an initial production capacity of 350 million cubic feet per day (mcfd).
