Eastern Province accelerates infrastructure development via SAR 3bn transport, logistics projects

Riyadh – Mubasher: Emir of the Eastern Province, Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, inaugurated six major road projects worth a combined SAR 406 million and witnessed the signing of transport and logistics agreements exceeding SAR 3 billion.

The agreements back ongoing efforts to strengthen the region’s infrastructure and support the Kingdom’s broader transportation and logistics development goals, according to Saudi Gazette.

Prince Bin Naif commented: “This reinforces the region’s economic and logistical position and advances the objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030 by establishing an integrated and sustainable transport system that enhances quality of life and supports growth and development.”

The package included contracts exceeding SAR 1.20 billion for projects at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, including the development of a new power station, upgrades to the medium-voltage distribution network, and modernization works aimed at enhancing the reliability of the airport’s electrical infrastructure.

Another project was announced to upgrade the northern road to King Fahd International Airport, involving the development of the route connecting the airport to the Safwa Bridge and its enhancement in accordance with modern standards to improve road safety and traffic flow.

Moreover, the prince witnessed the singing of an agreement to lease space for the operation of aircraft catering services at the airport, alongside a concession deal for the container terminal at Jubail Commercial Port, with total investments surpassing SAR 2 billion.

The project is expected to boost the port’s efficiency and competitiveness by increasing its annual handling capacity from 1.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) to 2.4 million TEUs.

A contract, valued at SAR 180 million, was inked for the construction of an integrated truck service center at King Abdulaziz Port.

The prince also witnessed the signing of a contract between Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) and a consortium comprising OHL Arabia Limited and Hassan Allam Construction to build a 21-kilometer railway line connecting Dammam’s 2nd Industrial City to the Kingdom’s national rail network.

In line with Saudi Vision 2030, the projects aim to advance the Kingdom’s mobility infrastructure, support the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, and further position Saudi Arabia as a leading global logistics hub.
