ENRE to build Egypt's first biogas plant through IPP scheme

Empower for New and Renewable Energy snapped up a deal for building Egypt's  first plant generating electric power from biogas wastes in El-Behiera province through an IPP scheme  at 24 MW capacity per day.
IPP scheme involves setting up the project through self-funding  or banking loans, provided the generated power is sold to the private companies.
" The plant is the first in Egypt that is built through IPP scheme, as the energy outputs will be sold to private firms such as dairy farms operating in Egypt for up to 20 years. Additionally a portion of the energy output shall be sold to cow farms at 135 piasters costs per KW/h," chairman Hatem El-Gamal told Al-Mal newspaper.
With investments amounting to EGP98mln and co-financed by  an Egypt-based bank at 80 percent, the remaining is self-funded by the company, he added.
As the contract is sealed  early this week, the project is slated to be completed the third quarter of this year, he said, noting that designs are currently prepared and amount of wastes necessary for the the project are being specified and the energy output is calculated.
Using German technologies, the project is scheduled to be carried out in the span of 9 month.
