EIB investments in Egypt reach EUR 8.2bn

Cairo - Mubasher: The head of the European Investment Bank (EIB) delegation to Cairo said that bank’s investment in Egypt has now reached a total of EUR 8.2 billion.

Funds helped more than 90 projects, ranging from renewable and conventional energy projects, to transportation, water and sewage, as well as supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs), Ulrich Brunnhuber said on Thursday.

EIB aims to support the Egyptian government plan to redevelop the country’s infrastructure.

The bank signed two grant agreements with Egypt for the investment and technical support of infrastructure projects, with a total value of EUR 32 million (EGP 662 million).

Projects include a water treatment project in Kafr El Sheikh Governorate, with 97 villages and around 500,000 beneficiaries, according to the minister of investment and international cooperation, Sahar Nasr.

The ministry has obtained investments of $1.5 billion to develop the water and sewage projects across the republic, Nasr added.
