Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has awarded a contract to supply, extend and commission 19.5km of water pipelines, at a total cost of AED131 million ($35.6 million) to connect different areas of the emirate.
The project includes the extension of 1,200mm diameter main water pipes to connect Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road, Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central in Jebel Ali, and Dubai Industrial City, with the Hassyan plant.
This will increase the water-flow capacity and meet the increasing demand for water in the developmental projects in these areas, DEWA said in a statement.
The project, which is expected to take 30 months to complete, includes several sites for connecting main transmission pipelines, to increase water flow, ensure the continuity of water access, and raise pressure in the network to keep pace with the increasing demand for water in those areas.
