Dubai records 24.5% higher customs transactions in 9M

UAE - Mubasher: Dubai saw a 24.5% surge in customs transactions during the first nine months of 2020, when compared to the same period of 2019, reflecting signs of recovery from the coronavirus (COVID-19) economic impact.

 Dubai Customs has implemented 11.2 million transactions in the January-September period of 2020, compared to the year-ago period, according to a press release on Sunday.

The number of Dubai's customs declarations jumped by 33% to 9.7 million in the first nine months of 2020 from 7.3 million in the corresponding period of the previous year.

As for business registration transactions, Dubai recorded 201,000 transactions, up 84.5% from 109,000 in the prior-year period.

In addition, Dubai Customs carried out 648,000 refund claims, 357,600 certificate and report requests, and 257,000 inspection-booking requests as of the end of September 2020.

The Director-General of Dubai Customs, Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, commented: "The strong investment in advanced technologies and efficient governance programmes over the years have allowed us today to complete 99.3% of transactions through smart and electronic channels."
