Dubai - Mubasher: Passavant Energy & Environment GmbH (PE&E), a subsidiary of Drake & Scull International (DSI), has secured a EUR 17 million (AED 73 million) sub-contract for the rehabilitation of the Tanta wastewater treatment plant in Egypt.
The award covers design, engineering, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning of electromechanical systems and piping across all major plant structures, according to a press release.
Passavant Energy will also operate the facility for two years, providing training to local personnel to ensure operational efficiency and capacity building.
The project involves a turnkey rebuild of the Tanta water treatment plant, which will have a treatment capacity of 100,000 m³/day, built alongside the existing 60,000 m³/day facility. It also includes mechanical and electrical systems for both water and sludge treatment lines, with an emphasis on reliability and minimal environmental impact.
Meanwhile, the construction is expected to take 27 months, followed by 24 months of operation and maintenance.
Upon completion, the plant will significantly increase water treatment capacity in the region, contributing to cleaner water resources and improved public health outcomes.
The contract strengthens DSI’s footprint in the MENA water and environmental infrastructure sector and underscores Passavant’s expertise in sustainable, high-impact projects.
It is worth noting that in January 2025, the DFM-listed company entered into a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with El Amar Group to collaborate on key initiatives across Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
