DP World inks deal to endorse China's Silk Road initiative

Dubai - Mubasher: DP World has signed a contract with Zhejiang China Commodities City Group to build a three million square metres traders market at Jebel Ali Port and Free Zone in Dubai.

Aimed at paving the way for the realisation of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, the new market is planned to comprise groups of traders from all over the world to offer a host of products in the same place, the Dubai-based ports operator said in a statement.

“Dubai and China have a long-standing trading history and it’s essential that we develop the movement of goods in tandem with the growing needs of consumers,” chairman and CEO of DP World group Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem commented.

Traders in the new market will be divided by sector, which may include household goods, building materials, food and beverage, cosmetics and healthcare, energy and power, and engineering and technology, Dubai's state-owned ports operator added.

“The new ‘Traders Market’ will provide an ideal platform for traders to showcase and sell goods in Dubai to local and international businesses,” Bin Sulayem said.
