Work on Bahrain's government-backed Hijiyat homes scheme is proceeding as planned, the kingdom's Minister of Housing confirmed.
Housing Minister, Basem bin Yacoub Al-Hamer, said work "is on good track" for the scheme, which is part of Bahrain's Government Action Plan (GAP) to build 25,000 units across the country.
“Main construction and infrastructure work has reached 98% and 59% respectively”, the minister said.
The Hijiyat scheme includes 126 flats across four apartment buildings.
GAP, of which Hijiyat is "a core part", stems from a royal order to build 40,000 homes in the kingdom.
Al-Hamer did not mention the Hijiyat homes' completion timeline, but said the ministry resolved "to spare no effort to fast-track all housing projects which are under construction countrywide".
The delivery of these housing projects would see the ministry distribute 5,000 units across the country, in line with directives issued by HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander, and First Deputy Premier, BNA reported.
