Cairo – Mubasher: The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has issued 500,000 Meeza prepaid cards since December, Sub-governor for payment systems and business technology, Ayman Hussein, said.
Meeza cards work with all point-of-sales (POS) and ATMs in Egypt, he added.
The CBE has issued licences to 17 banks to issue 20 million national payment cards by the end of 2021.
The new cards are one of the initiatives launched by the National Council of Payments (NCP) in a bid to promote financial inclusion.
