Baker Hughes opens ESP production centre in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh – Mubasher: Baker Hughes, a subsidiary of General Electric (GE) on Wednesday announced the inauguration of its Artificial Lift Centre of Excellence at the MODON site in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.

The new plant will be responsible for the manufacture of Baker Hughes’ entire range of oil and gas Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP) portfolio and will stress the ‘Made in Saudi’ capabilities.

The ESP plant will help bring Baker Hughes closer to its customers by offering the entire suite of advanced solutions promptly, the company said in a statement.

The plant, which emphasises Baker Hughes’ and GE’s commitment to localised manufacturing and Saudi talent development, will be located at MODON’s Multi Modal Facility.

“The Kingdom is focused on promoting industrial and economic diversification as part of [the] Saudi Vision 2030. As a core economic sector, the opportunity for localised manufacturing for the oil and gas industry will bring long-term benefits, including the creation of new jobs, and in building a Saudi SME supply chain,” commented Abdulaziz Al-Abdulkarim, Saudi Aramco’s VP of procurement and supply chain management.

The new Baker Hughes’ facility marks a “significant initiative that not only meets our iktva initiative but also will deliver added operational efficiency for the industry,” Al-Abdulkarim added.

The inauguration was attended by Baker Hughes chairman & CEO Lorenzo Simonelli, along with Abdulaziz Al-Abdulkarim, Saudi Aramco’s VP of procurement and supply chain management; Nasir Al-Nuaimi, Aramco’s VP of petroleum engineering and development; Rami Qasem, Baker Hughes president & CEO for the Middle East, North Africa & Turkey, along with other senior dignitaries and officials.
