Bahrain suspends new Qatari entry visas; students excluded

Mubasher: Bahrain has suspended the issuance of news entry visas for Qataris, citing the decision taken in 2017 to suspend political and diplomatic ties with Qatar.

The announcement made by the Ministry of Interior late Tuesday came as an implementation of the directives of the Bahraini Cabinet.

“The decision was not taken because of Qatari nationals who share brotherly ties with Bahrainis, but as result of irresponsible acts of Qatari authorities that do not consider the rights of neighbouring countries or the principles of the international law,” the ministry stated.

Qatari students who were studying Bahrain were excluded from the decisions, along with Qatari citizens who have already received valid visas, the ministry added.

On 5 June 2017, several Arab countries led by Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, and Bahrain cut diplomatic, land, and marine ties with Qatar, claiming that the latter was tied to terrorism.

Qatar has repeatedly denied such allegations.
