Hundreds of housing units are nearing completion at Khalifa Town, one of the newest residential suburbs in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Construction of 1,100 units being built within the first phase of the 6,000-unit residential project, located between the villages of Riyadh Askar and Bar Al-Dur, has reached 95%.
Infrastructural work is 80% complete and Phase 1 will be finished by the end of the year, according to the Bahrain Housing Ministry's assistant undersecretary for housing projects, Sami Abdulla Bouhaza’a.
He said the ministry had made "strenuous efforts to fast-track" the first phase of the project, which is split into two mini stages. Once the sprawling multi-phase project is finished, more than 54,000 people will have access to modern, efficient, and high-quality housing.
More than 400 units have already been handed over this year, with a further 862 units and 192 apartments set to delivered this year for the project partly funded by the Gulf Development Programme.
Khalia Town is also "key cornerstone" of the government's action plan to build 25,000 units. This is part of a nationwide royal directive issued by HM King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa to accelerate the construction of 40,000 homes as Bahrain prepares for an increase in population growth.
The government has now opened a tender process for architectural designers and construction firms to work on the upcoming phases of the Khalifa Town, one of several notable house-building initiatives under way in Bahrain.
Other projects include Salman Town, East Hiid Town, and the Al-Ramli housing project, all of which are under construction.
