Riyadh – Mubasher: Almar Water Solutions has been awarded the expansion of the Zuluf Water Treatment Project by Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Aramco), according to a recent press release.
The project is expected to reach financial close subject to customary conditions, reinforcing Almar’s strategic positioning in the Middle East in support of the region’s energy and industrial growth.
The expansion will be executed through the same special purpose vehicle (SPV) established for the original project under an extension of the existing concession agreement, ensuring full continuity of the contractual framework. The SPV is a joint venture (JV) between Almar and Al Jomaih Energy & Water Company.
With a total investment of $940 million, the second phase will add a new facility with a capacity of 308,000 cubic meters per day (m³/day), boosting treated water production for injection.
The expansion builds on the successful first phase of the Zuluf Water Treatment Plant, a strategic industrial facility launched in 2023 with a capacity of 185,000 m³/day. It follows the successful completion of the first phase of the plant, which commenced operations in 2023 with a treatment capacity of 185,000 m³/d.
Similar to the initial phase, the new facility will be developed under a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) concession that runs through 2050. Hence, the two phases will form a scalable, long-term water infrastructure platform designed to meet rising demand for high-quality injection water while ensuring operational efficiency and reliability.
Under the expanded project, Almar will oversee the development, financing, operation, and technical management of the facility.
