Al Jouf Agricultural begins pilot phase of potato seeds production

Riyadh – Mubasher: Al Jouf Agricultural Development Company has officially announced the commencement of local pilot production for high-quality potato seeds.

This operational milestone follows the activation of a strategic partnership agreement with South Korea’s Global Green EGG Company.

The initiative, situated at the company’s specialized laboratory in the Busaita area of the Al Jouf region, represents a critical phase in the company’s efforts to localize advanced agricultural technologies and enhance the domestic supply chain for essential crop seeds.

The announcement serves as a follow-up to the initial disclosure made on 11 March 2025, when Al Jouf Agricultural first informed shareholders of its memorandum of understanding and subsequent partnership with Global Green EGG Company.

The collaboration is specifically designed to leverage South Korean expertise in the production of high-quality potato seeds, which are vital for ensuring crop resilience and optimizing yields within the Kingdom’s unique climatic conditions.

By moving into the pilot production phase, the company is transitioning from the planning and administrative stages of the agreement into active technical implementation.

The current pilot operations are being conducted within the company’s laboratory facilities in the Busaita area.

This region is widely recognized as one of the most productive agricultural hubs in Saudi Arabia, providing the necessary infrastructure and environmental conditions for large-scale agribusiness projects.

During this pilot phase, the company and its South Korean partners will likely focus on refining the biological and technical processes required to ensure that the seeds meet international quality standards before they are introduced to the wider market.

According to the company’s projected timeline, the transition from pilot production to full-scale commercial production is expected to occur during the third quarter (Q3) of 2026.

This window allows for approximately eighteen months of testing, quality assurance, and scaling of operations.

The successful realization of commercial production is anticipated to reduce reliance on imported seeds, thereby contributing to the broader national objectives of food security and the development of the local agricultural industry.

Regarding the financial aspects of the project, Al Jouf Agricultural Development Company noted that there have been no changes to the costs associated with the event at this stage.

The company has maintained a transparent stance on the economic implications of the partnership, stating that the specific financial impact on its fiscal results will be determined and announced to the market at a later date.

This approach ensures that shareholders are kept informed of operational progress while waiting for more concrete data regarding the project’s contribution to the company’s bottom line.

The partnership with Global Green EGG Company reflects a growing trend among Saudi-listed companies to seek international technical expertise to bolster domestic production capabilities.

As Al Jouf Agricultural moves forward with its laboratory trials in Busaita, the focus will remain on meeting the technical benchmarks required to hit the Q3-26 commercial target.

The company has committed to providing further updates to the Saudi Exchange (Tadawul) as significant developments arise or when the financial impact becomes measurable.
