Al-Futtaim confiscates fake car parts worth $1.1m in UAE

Al-Futtaim Group, in partnership with the UAE Government, confiscated over 178,000 fake car parts worth $1.1m (AED4.2m) in the UAE during the first two months of 2018.

Eight raids were conducted in Al Ain, Umm al Quwain and Dubai.

In Al Ain, a villa was raided with the help of the municipality, police, Al Ain Economic Development Department (EDD) and other government entities, resulting in the confiscation of counterfeit parts worth $32,600.

Another batch of counterfeit parts worth around $327,000 was found in a 40-ft container in Dubai’s Warsan 3 area.

Saud Abbasi, managing director of Al-Futtaim-Toyota, said: “The dangers accompanying the use of counterfeit car parts are massive.

"These parts are not produced by certified manufacturers and do not meet the standards of safety and quality set by manufacturers.

"Using these fake parts not only puts the driver at risk, but also their families and the public. We implore the public to always opt for original and high-quality parts from authorised dealers.”
