UAE - Mubasher: Al Barakah Dates plans to expand its existing facility in the Dubai Industrial City, the region's largest manufacturing and logistics hub, to become the world's largest privately-owned date factory.
To process more than 100,000 tonnes of date and date products per year, the company seeks to more than double its size and become the world’s single largest processor of date ingredients, according to a press release on Sunday.
Set to be completed in early 2022, the new sustainable factory will span over a total area of 600,000 square feet, including 420,000 square feet of dedicated processing and cold storage space.
Meanwhile, the facility will be equipped with over 6,500 solar panels to cut 3,000 tonnes emissions per year.
The Managing Director of Al Barakah Dates, Yousuf Saleem, said: "This expansion will allow us to further grow our range of organic and conventional date products to cater to the growing needs of health-conscious consumers around the world."
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Dubai Industrial City, Saud Abu Al Shawareb, remarked: "As a leader in the date market, Al Barakah’s expansion will contribute significantly to the UAE’s national food security efforts."
