Riyadh – Mubasher: Acwa Power received notification on 22 September regarding the commencement of initial commercial operations at the Al Qassim 1 combined cycle gas turbine plant.
The project, located in Al Qassim, Saudi Arabia, has secured an initial commercial operation certificate for units totaling 1,283 megawatts (MW) of generation capacity.
The facility is developed by the Quwwa First Electricity Company, in which Acwa maintains a 40% equity stake. This initial phase represents a significant portion of the project’s total planned production capacity of 1,896 MW.
Management expects the financial impact of this operational milestone to be reflected in the company’s financial results starting from the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2026.
The project utilizes combined cycle technology to enhance energy efficiency as part of the Kingdom's broader power infrastructure development.
In August, the listed group penned power purchase agreements with the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) to develop, finance, build, and operate three independent battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.
