Abu Dhabi opens Middle East's largest container freight station

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Abu Dhabi Ports on Monday announced the inauguration of the new Cosco Shipping Container Terminal at Khalifa Port.

Abu Dhabi Ports established the terminal under a 35-year agreement with COSCO Shipping Ports (SCP),  a subsidiary of Cosco Shipping Corporation Limited of China.

The new terminal includes the largest container freight station across the Middle East.

The terminal’s cost amounted to $300 million, while the container freight’s investment valued at $130 million.

The new terminal has a capacity of 2.5 million cargos, with plans of expansion to 9.1 million containers within the coming five years.

“The UAE is one of the biggest trade partners of China in the region with non-oil trade reaching $53 billion in 2017 and is expected to reach $80 billion in the coming two years,” Sultan Al Jaber, UAE minister of state and chairman of Abu Dhabi Ports, said.
