Abu Dhabi Ports, China’s JOCIC start AED 2.2bn tire factory construction

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Abu Dhabi Ports and China’s Jiangsu Provincial Overseas Cooperation and Investment Company (JOCIC) on Tuesday announced beginning the construction works of Roadbot tire project in the Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD). 

The first tire manufacturing plant in the UAE will be built with a total investment of AED 2.2 billion ($ 614.37 million) in KIZAD’s China-UAE Industrial Capacity Cooperation Demonstration Zone, according to a statement.

Spanning over 275,000 square metres, the project is set to have an initial annual production capacity of 3 million passenger car radial (PCR) tires and 1 million truck and bus radial (TBR) tires which will be increased to 10 million PCR tires and 1 million TBR tires by 2022.

Set to be fully operational by 2020, the Roadbot tire factory, “will make an important contribution to the UAE’s manufacturing base as part of our leadership’s longstanding strategy to diversify our economy,” the UAE’s Minister of State and chairman of Abu Dhabi Ports Sultan Al Jaber said.

Being a fruit of a 50-year agreement in 2017 between Abu Dhabi Ports and JOCIC, the Roadbot Abu Dhabi tire project “is an important part of the Belt and Road Initiative and a crystallisation of multiculturalism, based on the principle of achieving shared growth through discussion and collaboration,” Roadbot chairwoman Zhang Yingzi stated.
