6,000 factories to benefit from UAE’s electricity tariff cut

Dubai - Mubasher: More than 6,000 factories across the UAE will benefit from the cabinet’s move to reduce electricity tariffs for the industrial sector, the Ministry of Energy said.

A large number of large, medium and small facilities will receive their electricity consumption charges with a 10% to 29% reduction.

Set to be implemented by the fourth quarter of 2018, the decision comes along with the UAE’s vision of supporting the industrial sector, Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, minister of energy, noted.

“Large factories are major contributors to the national economy and help meet Emiratisation targets by generating job opportunities for UAE nationals,” Al Mazrouei added.

Al Mazrouei also said that the initiative is expected to help the UAE meet its Emiratisation targets.

“The industry sector is the main driver of long-run growth and accounts for more than 25 percent of the authority’s income,” Mohamed Mohamed Salad, the director general of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority, said.
