59 ships cross Suez Canal Tuesday - SCA

Cairo – Mubasher: The number of ships passing through the Suez Canal on Tuesday registered 59 with a total cargo of 3.9 million tonnes, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Mohab Mamish said in a statement.

Thirty-five vessels carrying around with 2.3 million tonnes crossed the northbound convoy, while the southbound convoy saw the crossing of 24 vessels with a total cargo of 1.6 million tonnes, the statement added.

The giant container ship (OOCL GERMANY), one of the world's largest container ships, crossed the southbound convoy carrying 221,000 tonnes. It came from Singapore en route to the United Kingdom (UK).

The Japanese container ship (MACKINAC BRIDGE), which came from the UK en route to China, topped the northbound convoy ships carrying 160,000 tonnes.

Suez Canal's revenues rose 3.4% year-on-year to $4.343 billion in the first 10 months of 2017 from $4.202 billion in the same period in the prior year, SCA data showed.
