10 Saudi startups take part in 1st German-Saudi startup contest

Riyadh – Mubasher: Ten Saudi startups participated in the first German-Saudi startup competition, which was held in Riyadh.

Taken place on Thursday 22 March, the competitors had two minutes to overview their ideas in front of judges, then they would receive questions for two minutes after their presentation.

The first two winners will receive a four-day trip to Berlin to pitch at the Mena Business Forum on 12 April.

From the Saudi city of Madinah, “Labayh” was the winner in the group of social entrepreneurship startups.

The first winner showcased its project which helps individuals who are suffering from family and psychological troubles through a beneficial free content providing consultation sessions via a mobile app.

The app works as a point of connection between consultants and users.

While “Lucidya”, which is from Jeddah, was the victor in the group of technology innovation startups.

The firm is at pains to empower businesses in a bid to make smarter decisions by using artificial intelligence (AI) and big data technologies. This in return enables businesses to monitor and analyse all forms of digital media to understand and expect consumers’ thoughts.

Detecon Al-Saudia (DETASAD), an end-to-end information and communication technology (ICT) solution provider, sponsored the first German-Saudi Startup contest organized by the German-Saudi Arabian Liaison Office for Economic Affairs (GESALO).

“We’re proud of our leadership position within the high technology space, and delighted to work together with the German Embassy, GESALO, and our partners to support development and building of a vibrant start-up ecosystem in the KSA ICT industry,” Detecon Al Saudia CEO and president Felix Wass said.
