Mubasher: Former businessman Donald Trump took the oath of office at the Capitol in Washington D.C. on Friday.
He was sworn in as the 45th president for the United States during the inauguration ceremony.
Mike Pence was also sworn in as vice president.
In his inaugural speech, Trump pledged an "America first"
"The forgotten men and women of this country will be forgotten no longer," he said in front of the US Capitol.
Investors across the US, and the world, are awaiting to see which of Trump's vows will come to light.
In his presidential campaign, the former reality television star vowed to reduce corporate taxes and increase government spending on infrastructure.
He had also discussed protectionism in terms of trade, which boosted demand for gold, a commodity which is seen as a safe haven.
