Q2 2019 sales at Bahrain's Alba grow 25% despite global trade tensions

Bahrain Bourse-listed Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) recorded 25% year-on-year growth in sales volume during Q2 2019, with the value reaching 311,928 metric tonnes (t) during the period, compared to 249,595 t in Q2 2018, despite a downward trend in prices at the London Metal Exchange and ongoing global trade tensions.

The manufacturer says it will become the largest smelter in the world upon the completion of its Line 6 Expansion Project. 

Chief executive officer of Alba, Tim Murray, said: “We are targeting Line 6's complete ramp-up by 31 July, 2019, which will position Alba for a strong second half-finish despite the tough aluminium market conditions.”

In a stock market filing, the company said that production in Q2 2019 reached 305,727 t, 21% higher compared to Q2 2018's production of 252,081 t. 

According to Alba, its H1 production grew by 13% to 578,434 t in comparison to 511,480 t in H1 2018 .

Sales volume for H1 2019 rose 14% over H1 2018 figures to 569,042 t.
