Kuwait’s Jazeera Airways has put its entire fleet of 14 aircraft at the disposal of the Kuwaiti government to help return Kuwaiti citizens to the country amid the coronavirus pandemic, as well as transport medical products and equipment.
In a statement, Jazeera said that it had suspended all flights to and from Kuwait as of midnight on Friday, March 13, following a government decision to suspend all flights to Kuwait International Airport.
The airline as earlier suspended flights from countries impacted by the virus, and significant reduced flights to other countries.
Now, Jazeera is constructing a dedicated auxiliary special medical facility in coordination with Kuwait authorities at Kuwait International Airport’s Terminal 5 to screen all inbound passengers and test them for coronavirus before they enter the arrivals hall.
The facility is expected to be ready as soon as Kuwait’s government announces the reopening of Kuwait International Airport.
There have been 112 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Kuwait, 9 of whom have recovered and 4 of whom remain in serious or critical condition.
On March 15, Kuwait closed down al shopping malls, arcades, barber shops and salons in a bid to combat the spread of the coronavirus. Additionally, restaurants and coffee shops have been instructed to not allow more than five customers at one time.
Food stores, however, will remain open, although shoppers have been told to allow at least one metre distance between each other in the queue.
