Vodafone Qatar to launch 5G commercially

Mubasher: Vodafone Qatar on Wednesday announced receiving the spectrum licence from Qatar’s from the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) to begin the commercial operation of 5G in the country.

The new licence replaces the CRA’s trial licence that allowed Vodafone Qatar to conduct 5G trials to date, the company said in a statement to the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE), noting that it has achieved major progress in “building out its 5G network.”

Commenting on the licence award, Vodafone Qatar CEO Sheikh Hamad Abdulla Jassim Al Thani said that, after the CRA licence, his company was “one of the first operators in the world to be live with 5G commercially.”

He thanked the CRA for its support to the company, its infrastructure, and how it seeks to realise the Qatar National Vision 2030.

Vodafone Qatar had rolled out its 5G network in several locations across Qatar, including Al Waab, Abu Hamour, Al Aziziya, Al Mamoura, Al Rayyan, Katara Cultural Village, Salwa Road, Souq Waqif and Um Salal Muhummed.

“We are committed to developing the digital system and infrastructure that will contribute to Qatar's continued growth and prosperity in the coming years. We now look forward to connecting customers to our 5G network to enhance the quality of people’s lives and to help drive the economic growth and productivity in Qatar,” Al Thani concluded.
