DP World expands in Southeast Asia

UAE – Mubasher: DP World is expanding its presence in Southeast Asia, aiming to boost trade and logistics connectivity across the region.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, DP World Group Chairman and CEO, recently toured the area, signing a significant partnership agreement in Malaysia and inaugurating two new facilities in the Philippines, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

In Malaysia, DP World partnered with Sabah Ports to manage Sapangar Bay Container Port, doubling its handling capacity and positioning Sabah as a crucial trade hub in the East ASEAN Growth Area.

DP World inaugurated a major upgrade in the Philippines, at the Batangas Passenger Terminal, doubling its capacity to 8 million passengers annually.

The company also opened the Tanza Barge Terminal in Cavite, providing a direct sea link to Manila and improving goods transport efficiency, expected to handle up to 240,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) yearly and save 150,000 truck trips.

Establishing Singapore as its Asia Pacific headquarters in 2021, DP World now operates 19 ports and terminals across Australia, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam.

"The Asia Pacific region is a cornerstone of our global growth strategy. We are committed to driving regional growth through partnerships and investments that improve trade connectivity for local businesses and communities," bin Sulayem said.

“We see significant potential in Southeast Asia as a growing hub for global trade, driven by strong economic growth and intra-regional trade. And investments in the region will continue as companies explore ways to build resilience into their supply chains through diversification,” he added.

In March 2024, DP World unveiled over 100 freight forwarding offices worldwide to support customers in navigating the intricacies of global trade.
